Drawing from the toughness and grit of its Downtown Phoenix Roosevelt Row neighborhood, and the moody sophistication found within the tradition of iconic jazz clubs, The Nash Jazz Club balances its urban and cultural contexts to create an intimate music experience that is current yet squarely rooted within the rich history of jazz clubs.

The structure of the existing building shell is drawn into the club’s finish palette to create a rich textured composition. The steel bar-joist roof structure and wide-flange beams, pipe columns, and concrete masonry walls speak to the context of restaurants, bars, shops, of adaptable commercial buildings in the neighborhood. With a delicate design hand, patterns of light and shadow created by the overlapping detail of tectum wall and ceiling panels and upholstery details complement the existing structural textures. Both new and existing finishes are painted deep raisin to unify the whole, accented with champagne tones at the bar and the tectum ceiling at the entry. A playful arrangement of chairs, booths, and banquettes in red, orange, and purple fabrics animate the club in a fashion similar to the improvisational lines laid down by the artists.
