This urban oasis rests on a site of profound opportunity because of its context. Designed to capture the power of Piestewa Peak and the vast surrounding desert, it is spatially organized around an ‘entry canyon’ radially aligned with the peak, while the rest of the design draws from the arcs of the site’s cul de sac. Directed toward the city, carefully placed window apertures pierce the dark entry wall of concrete masonry, zinc cladding, and iron spot ceramic tile, creating an experience of transformation from city to nature beyond.
