Billings, Montana

library
Fitting of the pragmatism in the urban tradition of the American West, Billings Public Library draws from its local context with humility and purposeā€¦the long low buildings that serve the original Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad, the elegant pole barns of the Eastern Montana landscape, and the sandstone bluffs that shape the Yellowstone River Valley. The library is a glass vitrine floating above a base of golden-gray sandstone. Perforated stainless steel panels are calibrated for optimized light and views. Through efficiencies born in design, the library is certified LEED Platinum. Completed as willbruder+PARTNERS with O2 Architects.
